saunders_robert_webTEDx Talk: Dr. Robert A. Saunders, Professor of History and Political Science at Farmingdale State College will lead a discussion on oddities of academia, reflecting on the curious cultures of the Ivory Tower. Having worked outside academe for years as a management consultant in the telecommunication industry, he is particularly well-suited to discuss the peculiar nature of life inside the university. Dr. Saunders will discuss how the process of creating PhDs breeds a unique form of insularity that often makes professors poor students of the human condition. In an effort to provide additional context to Third, he will also discuss his own experiences with student plagiarism and instructor-student conflicts.

THIRD: Set on the campus of a New England, liberal arts college, professor Laurie Jameson (played by Annette O’Toole), accuses one of her students—an outwardly stereotypical jock nicknamed, ‘Third’—of plagiarism, and as a result throws her own life into disarray. A masterpiece about the dangers of identity politics and stereotypes, Third is also a moving, witty and funny play written by one of the best loved writers of the modern theater.
