Handmade has been my passion and preferred method of interfacing with the world. I was a Maker before it was a culture. As a visual presentation designer, I incorporated old and new, trash and treasure in my projects. My husband’s career in technology and entertainment afforded me access to the Ham Radio Fests and Hacker conventions where the original Makers congregated long before they were a movement. That’s why I’m proud to be a part of TedxNavesink Makers bringing Maker awareness to our community.
Lois Simon Rosenthal is a bead artist who weaves seed beads into small sculptures and original jewelry designs. She has served as past President of the Bead Society of New Jersey and the New Jersey Polymer Clay Guild. Lois worked as a visual presentation designer for an international retailer and as the artistic partner in an event company designing custom art decorations. Her art has been exhibited and sold in juried shows and her beadwork is published in Lark Craft’s book, “Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry”.
For many years, Lois operated the first electronic bulletin board televised to western Monmouth County residents, creating the copy and graphics for municipal announcements, promotion of news and local events and the broadcast of emergency information. Technology, entertainment and design have played an integral role in her life and marriage to her Emmy Award-winning husband, Eric. Lois considers her best collaborative creations to be her three daughters and finds inspiration in her six grandchildren.
