“Healing Ourselves Through Play”
What happens when a driven, over-worked business owner and mother of three gets stopped dead in her tracks with illness and injury? She learns her greatest life lesson of course! In her talk she tell us that althought cancer knocked her socks off it also gave her an amazing gift - it was a wake up call that made her realize that all work and no play was good for neither Jack nor her. She realized, with the help of friends, and of course the great teacher ‘Life’, that time spent together in the spirit of joy and fun was a great healer, and the “secret” to living life fully, as described on inspirational refrigerator magnets.
About Marie Jackson
Marie Jackson is the owner of six year old The Flaky Tart Bakery in Atlantic Highlands, NJ and a three time James Beard Nominee for Outstanding Pastry Chef. Her love of baking and pastry is only trumped by that for her husband of over 20 years and three great kids. A 2013 cancer diagnosis coupled with a spinal injury landed her in the hospital for a month, bed ridden for many more, and out of work for a year. But the best lessons rarely come easy. Today, happy and healthy, she is thankful for the wake up call and indebted to the family and friends who taught her what it means to really live life.
